How Concrete Volume Is Calculated

Our Concrete Calculator computes the volume of concrete needed for your project based on the shape and dimensions you provide. It converts cubic feet to cubic yards (the standard ordering unit) and estimates the number of bags required.

Formulas

Slab / Column / Footing Volume = Length × Width × Height

Cylinder Volume = π × (Diameter ÷ 2)² × Height

Cubic Yards Cubic Yards = Cubic Feet ÷ 27

60 lb Bags Bags = Cubic Yards × 45

80 lb Bags Bags = Cubic Yards × 34

Real-Life Examples

Slab: A 20 ft × 12 ft × 0.33 ft driveway needs 79.2 ft³ (2.93 yd³) of concrete, about 132 eighty-lb bags.
